Dwelling

Architectural Studio Second Year

A three stage development for a professional photographer to live and work. As people move through the site they experience a play of light and space. Each stage is broken into a block of 20m x 20m, with changing ground heights. The entrance on the right, utilises a pergola to create light and shadow, while the large grass area gives space to the photographer for setting up large shoots. The second stage moves people onto a grassed plateau, before they descend into a hearth of water. One end of the hearth is dark for meditation, while the other end has a chimney of light drawing people's sight upwards and moving them into the next stage. The third stage features the dwelling and place of work. The glass dwelling reflects the form of the pergola, while the work place reflects the heavy nature of the hearth, which includes the light chimney running the entire length of the southern face.
